HOW BAGGY IS TOO BAGGY

Article Image

There's no number. No waist measurement that makes a baggy jean right or wrong. Baggy is a decision, not an accident — and most people get that part backwards.

Here's the line: a baggy jean is too baggy the second it stops looking intentional. When it reads like you grabbed three sizes up and hoped. When the crotch sits at your knees and the whole thing puddles like you're drowning in it. That's not baggy. That's careless. And careless is the one thing NYC clocks instantly.

Done right, a baggy jean holds a shape. It sits at the hip — not the thigh, not halfway down. It drops straight and heavy from there. A little stack at the ankle. Enough break to bunch, not enough to swallow the shoe. The volume is on purpose. You can see the silhouette. It moves when you move.

The test is simple. Stand up. If the jean still has a line — a top, a fall, a break — it's working. If it's just fabric with no direction, it's too much. Baggy is structure. Sloppy is structure gone missing.

We cut two that pass the test. The GRAFFITI BAGGY JEAN — full print, heavy drop, the loud one. And the SPLIT BAGGY JEAN — cleaner, a cut that stacks right without asking for attention. Both sit where they should. Both hold the line.

That's the whole thing. Baggy isn't about how much room you can find. It's about how much you can control.

Say less.
