HOW TO DRESS FOR FALL IN NYC WITHOUT OVERTHINKING IT
Summer is easy. A tee, pants, done. Fall is where it shows whether you actually know how to dress — proportion, weight, layers, and a city that changes temperature on you five times a day.
Here's the whole system. No moodboard required.
THE NYC FALL FORMULA
Base: a tee or long sleeve. Middle: a hoodie, knit, or crewneck. Outer: a light-to-medium jacket. Bottom: denim or a heavier pant. Shoes: something that can walk twenty blocks without complaining.
That's it. Every fall outfit in this city is some version of those five slots. The skill isn't owning more — it's knowing which slot the day actually needs.
WHAT TO WEAR IN NYC: SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER
September and early October: tee plus jacket. A heavyweight tee holds its own; the jacket comes on and off all day.
Mid-October: the middle layer enters. A long sleeve or knit under the jacket, or a crewneck carrying the outfit alone.
November: hoodie or knit plus a real outer layer. This is 485GSM fleece weather. Add a beanie and stop checking the forecast.
WHY THE SUBWAY DECIDES YOUR OUTFIT
You leave at 48 degrees. The platform is pushing 85. You walk six blocks, sit in a heated café, come back out at 8PM and it dropped ten more.
If your outfit only works outside, it doesn't work in New York. Dress for the street. Undress for the train. That's why layers beat one heavy piece — a zip or a hoodie you can open is worth three coats you can't.
WHAT ABOUT THE JACKET
A good fall jacket passes three tests. Weight: light enough for the subway, real enough for the night. Room: if it only fits over a tee, it dies in three weeks — it has to take a hoodie underneath. Range: can you wear it for three months straight?

The Sherpa Black Jacket was built against exactly those three questions.
YOU CAN SPOT THEM IN OCTOBER
The giant coat Google told them to bring, dying in a 90-degree subway car. The city doesn't read your forecast. It reads whether you've been here before.
