UNFRIENDLY IS A COMPLIMENT

Article Image

People ask why the brand is called Unfriendly NYC.

Here's the answer: in New York, "unfriendly" is what people call you when you don't smile at strangers, don't explain yourself, and don't open up to everyone who asks. That's not a flaw. That's a filter.

Out-of-towners read it as cold. It's not cold. It's selective. NYC teaches you early that warmth is earned, not distributed. You don't give your energy to everybody and their moms. You give it to the ones who passed.

So when somebody calls a New Yorker unfriendly, what they're actually saying is: I couldn't get in.

Word. That's the point.

THE NAME IS THE PRODUCT

The brand works the same way the person does. Cold outside — black, heavy, closed off. Fire inside — the print you only catch up close, the yellow label nobody sees unless you let them.

We didn't pick a name that invites you in. We picked the thing people say about us when they're left outside.

Not for everyone. By design.
